My review of the BMJ iPad app
Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 12:38PM So my dad bought an iPad 2 and I got a chance to use it. Excellent tablet but I am not sure if it would replace my MacBook. Anyway, being a BMA member, I was able to download the app on the iPad.
Here is a brief review of it so far. I apologise for the low resolution images. This is mainly due to the low resolution of the iPad camera.
This is the initial screen where you get to download the issues.

Once you chose an issue ( past or current), you download it and it takes about 3 minutes on the home wi-fi network. Once downloaded, the "View" tab is seen. Clicking on this takes us to the issue. ( This means that once the issue is downloaded on to your iPad, it can be accessed even when you are offline...however, space is used up on your iPad's already limited hard drive).

Clicking on the List on the left hand side menu takes you the article selected

Reading the article is easy with boxes opening up well and links in the articles hyperlinked and clicking on them takes you to the relevant article.

However, there is a hitch here. If the pop up box includes a lot of data, there is no scroll button and there is no way of viewing the rest of the contents.....See below for an example:

All the videos and Blogs are easily accessible and I have to admit, I enjoyed viewing the videos. Usually on the webpage I just skim past them but on the iPad they are so much. There is also a handy tab to share them via email, Twitter or Faceook!

So in summary, I would recommend this app and credit BMJ for working on this app. It has made accessing BMJ on the go much easier. I hope Innovait also sees a similar app. Could a similar iPhone app be round the corner?
